as the news gets filled up with d-day remembrances i always find myself thinking of my dad.
here he is (taken from the U.S.S Corry DD-463 homepage). i recently learned that one of my favorite authors, j.d. salinger, was part of the utah beach contingency too. that makes me kind of happy!
dad spent his time there that day on the corry, then floating in the cold water when it sank, later rescued by the fitch. so they probably didn't have a smoke together or anything.
