Listen to the radio or sing to yourself

I am reviewing the Utah Driver Handbook to prepare for the licensing test. The book is written in such a nice and practical way in places, I appreciate the style. Maybe they're all written like this, I haven't looked at one since I last took a written test, age 16? Here are some excerpts:

COURTESY IS THE KEY TO SAFETY

Do Not Insist on the Right-of-Way - Don’t let getting onto the freeway be a battle to the death. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Do Not Drive So Slowly That You Block Traffic- Slow driving is not always safe driving. If your speed is so slow that cars are piling up behind your car, you are unsafe, discourteous, and breaking the law.

Night Driving - When you drive at night, you are in an entirely new environment.

Mental and emotional conditions are just as important as physical health concerns. If your mind is not on your driving, you are probably not driving safely... If you are worried about something, do something that will allow you to concentrate on your driving. Listen to the radio or sing to yourself. If you are angry or excited, give yourself time to cool off. Take a walk or talk to a friend.

In recent years, drugs have become a problem with many drivers on the roads. The "drug addict" is not the only person causing a problem. Most of the drugs for headaches, colds, hay fever, allergies, or nerves can make you sleepy and affect your control of the vehicle.

Farmer's Market

Left work early today and stopped by the big farmer's market in town. They are having their southern plant & flower festival right now. The place is huge. They have a large covered but open air area, and many stands and shops outside all around. Produce, foods, plants, a few craft things, and lots of gardening related items.

It's strawberry time.

All I bought was some kettle corn. This huge bag was $5, delicious.

Swimmer Swag

My delightful order from SwimOutlet arrived! Everything fits. The mystery grab bag board shorts are the short version (good), hot pink (okay) and a tad loose? I can fix that. I recommend the website for your aquatic needs. Good prices, shipping free over $49 purchase, arrived quick and accurate. I debated posting the model shot, but what the hell. I don't remember the last time I had a bikini...

Crescent Beach

I drove over to North Myrtle Beach today. Quite a bit of traffic. The Myrtle Beach area isn't really my kind of place, the long beaches are lined with hotels, tourist souvenir shops, mini golf, shopping malls and outlets. It was a great beach day though, clear and warm, bit breezy. I was lucky to find an open public parking spot right at one of the openings to Crescent Beach. The water was nice, cool at first but not numbing like in SF. There were lots of people, the place must be a madhouse in summer. I stopped at a road stand on the way back and bought a big basket of strawberries!

Saturday Stuff

After three weeks of fairly warm allergen heavy weather, then a sudden cold spell, it is perfectly gorgeous here today. My first unfettered weekend in a month, no work no travels. Feels so good to relax.

I'm on a search for a new swimsuit, been researching online and talking to barkmore. Found a nice outdoor gear store close by yesterday while driving home from work, avoiding traffic jams. Stopped by today, they should be getting board shorts in the next month, but I did try on a pair of Patagonia shorts for sizing. Women's 6 is too big. Guess I'll try the mall sporting goods store next.

Naturally Outdoors

I highly recommend this brand of dumplings to Mr. Sha! Heat your ramen water, add some of these frozen baby dumplings, boil 1 minute, add ramen, boil to loosen dry noodles, take off heat and let stand until cool enough to eat and noodles are soft. Add shoyu etc. Sugoi! Oishi! Like vietnamese wonton soup with egg noodles.

Seeing as that I won't be getting any peeps this year (and never again according to B, at least until I eat the stale ones in my room), I thought I'd share this photo for Easter. This was taken the last time I was home, at Fred's...

Senbei

I obtained this beautiful and delicious box of gift wrapped senbei from Japan. It was from the recent audit, given by the visitors to our audit support group. I had gone into the support room and taken one small serving packet, thrilled to have something recently brought from Japan, and ended up with all they had because no one liked it! The box and wrapping paper is nice too.
