Pre-Bloom

I think these big trees are Sakura, lining Honmoku dori near the big shopping area and Aeon. Buds have formed, but no blossoms yet.

Dogs Welcome

Some pet related photos. Ironically no actual animals pictured, I'm shy and cautious about photographing strangers.

Invasive Weed

Lunch today was kushinsai (water morning glory, a noxious weed for some in the US apparently) stir fried with garlic and shoyu, spicy cucumber pickles with shiso, other pickles, nori, rice. The soup has tofu and komatsuna, the tofu here is very delicious.

Playing solitaire (pyramid, but not the adds-to-13 one), with garlic rusk from Honmokukan (our local lovely bakery, a couple blocks away)

that tropical taste is here

We walked to a shopping center to look around, pick up a few things. Near Chiyozakicho and Yamashita Koen, right at the bay.

That salmon problem

I rarely eat salmon, for years now, due to an incident involving drying salmon and the smell making me sick. I did make an exception at a pub in Doolin, for exquisite local salmon. And also today. Very fresh, salted and grilled.

The accompaniments are pickled dried takuan (from Hokkaido), age tofu and greens in dashi, pickled gobo and wakame/salted cucumber salad. Rice as always!

More walking around

This first one is the house my aunt used to own, when all three kids lived with her plus the two grandkids, before things broke apart for them. This is just a couple of blocks away from the apt. The blue tarped structure is a new building going up, on what was a parking lot before. The new building is really going to cut off sunlight to the house.

Walk to Yamate Station

The narrow shotengai (shopping street) leading to the train station. A lot of these shops seem pretty run down. 20 minute walk from the apt.
